Hi there,

Restaurants Canada continues to work with our partners to ensure that we provide resources to address the most pressing concerns of the foodservice community as part of the evolving response to COVID-19.

Restaurant rental and property questions for foodservice operations

Understanding your options when it comes to rental agreements is essential. We reached out to CHI Real Estate to get a better understanding of what restaurant owners need to know when it comes to their property and rental agreements. Here are the answers to some of the most pressing rental questions when it comes to COVID-19 in MENU Magazine

The Government of Nova Scotia has produced a rent deferral template that can be easily leveraged by businesses that may support you in discussions and help eliminate legal costs to the business. Download here:

Insurance clause and considerations for your business

Many operators have had claims denied claims for Business Interruption insurance to cover losses related to the COVID-19 crisis. Restaurants Canada has been made aware of a clause that may exist in some insurance policies called "Negative Publicity Coverage".  We recommend checking your policy to see if this may apply. While this clause is not in all policies, we have seen it used successfully to cover COVID-19 losses. Operators should review their policies and talk to their brokers.

For additional insurance assistance, our partners at BDO have outlined some key insurance coverage considerations for you to be aware of as you begin to contemplate with your insurance advisors whether initiating an insurance claim may be a viable relief option for your business. Click here
